Introduction:
Hey, I’m Islam, an ACLC senior graduating in 2019. I’ve been at ACLC since my freshman year and I can definitely say it was an astonishing experience. ACLC is a really good school for me considering I wasn’t sitting in a class for six hours straight and I’d have a break to do what homework I wanted in between, it helped me to recollect myself and prepare for the rest of the day. The community is very interactive and CCC wasn’t something I was expecting but it turned out to be helpful with the daily announcements and the bevys that led to more interaction between learners and facilitators. Love the tone of this intro
Personal qualities, work habits, and attitudes:
I’ve changed a lot throughout ACLC. I came in there as a kid with mild intelligence, but a bad work ethic, so overtime I slowly started to see a decrease in grades.I’ve since been awoken to how important it really is for me to pass these classes so I’m trying my best. I’m not gonna lie I was a pretty “bad” kid in the sense that I wouldn’t cooperate with the facilitators, but as many were switched out I’d say I have a friendly relationship with all my current facilitators. I’m pretty quiet in class but sociable during my free periods I’ve made many friends at ACLC and it’s helpful to make as many friends as you can considering the small size of the school.
Throughout my time at ACLC, speaking out is something I’ve done to help improve myself and my community. It wasn’t always like this for me, at times in my earlier years I wouldn’t even speak because I didn’t feel the need and felt I wouldn’t make an impact. Overtime I’ve learned that everything I say has an impact and could benefit me and others. I started to be vocal about issues that I saw around school and discussed it with facilitators, If I didn’t feel right about something I would always speak out on the issue and it would end in positive results. I spoke more in my english socratic seminars which showed me how my words were valued by my peers.
Solving problems has been a big thing for me at my time in ACLC, as I said previously, I was a student that was frequently entrapped by the courts of justice at ACLC. At one point I said to myself what are these problems that are causing me to stack up on detentions and suspensions? I analyzed everything I was doing and decided to hold back on what was causing the most trouble in order to stop getting punished. Being vocal is another way to solve your problems, ask questions when you don’t understand so the facilitator can take time out of their day to actually help you instead of just insisting on waiting for them to magically realize you don’t understand half the material taught. Common sense helped me solve my problems.
Personally, I have always been a team member that contributes high quality work to the group. I always try to encourage others to speak and I can cooperate with almost everyone. At ACLC I was one of the people who advocated for more group work and after a bit of time I managed to get what I want. I work better in groups because sometimes I feel as if my individual thoughts aren’t enough and everyone has a different perspective on something so why not incorporate their thoughts and collaborate for a better project. Within my groups at ACLC there was a lot of diversity in terms of everything so I got really good at understanding different people have different needs and I always make sure I fulfill these so everyone stays happy.
Technology is one of my favorite things, ever since I was a kid I’ve used computers and it’s a big part of my life. Whenever we have assignments within class I constantly ask if I could type it because It’s faster for me and since my handwriting is disgusting typing would make it easier for my teachers to understand. My love for technology has led me to take computer science here at ACLC. I never mishandle equipment and I make sure I plug it back in so it can charge. Technology is awesome!
My time at ACLC has been great and I’m glad I was able to spread my views and provide my skills within the community. Into my adult life I will be working hard to obtain the currency, I will prepare for a life of 9-5 work with minimum breaks but I will be able to retire early and live my life in peace.
